What is: Yoga
Hatha yoga, widely practised in the West, emphasises physical
control and postures. The concentration on breathing and the alternate
stretching and relaxing designed to effect all parts of the body have
been found to be beneficial to health, most clearly in lowering of blood
pressure.
Kundalini yoga, associated with tantra, is based on the physiology of the
subtle body. It attempts to open centres of psychic energy said to be
located in the spinal column and to activate the kundalini, a force
located at the base of the spine.
